Ayam Kampung (literally "village chicken") refers to indigenous, free-range chickens. Unlike commercial broiler chickens, they are raised using traditional methods, allowing them to roam freely and forage naturally.
These type of chickens are leaner and smaller, with its meat famously firm and flavorful with a "gamey" or savory profile that cannot be easily replicated by broilers.
Typically higher in protein and significantly lower in fat, it's often considered healthier as they are generally raised without hormones or routine antibiotics.
